HUNT FAMILY FOUNDATION TO PLAY MAJOR
ROLE IN KEEP EL PASO BEAUTIFUL PROGRAM
City-wide initiative will provide tools for volunteer beautification efforts
El Paso, TX (July 10, 2009) – The Hunt Family Foundation and Keep El Paso Beautiful cut the ribbon on a brand new Community Tool Shed today. The “shed” is actually part of El Paso Fire Station #27, 6767 Ojo de Agua. It is one of 32 fire station tool sheds around El Paso that will lend tools and supplies to El Pasoans who want to use them to clean up their homes, yards, or any property that needs a little beautification help.
The Community Tool Shed program is an initiative of Keep El Paso Beautiful, and the Hunt Family Foundation has made a major pledge to sponsor the program.
“The Hunt Family Foundation is honored to help support programs that share our desire to build a better quality of life for El Pasoans and the region,” said Joshua Hunt, President of the Hunt Family Foundation. “We believe the Community Tool Shed program fits that criteria well and works diligently to make the initiative successful, and lasting. We’re proud to be a part of it.”
Hunt said the Hunt Family Foundation made a four-year commitment totaling $100,000 to the Keep El Paso Beautiful program.
“A cleaner community decreases health risks, increases safety, and has a positive economic impact on neighborhoods,” said Keep El Paso Beautiful Executive Director, Katharine Gunter-Palafox. “Our new partnership with the Hunt Family Foundation is a very positive step in helping El Pasoans have easy access to the tools and supplies necessary to make their neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and better. Residents can really take pride in what they’re doing, and it will have an impact on the entire community.”
Annually, more than 600 clean-ups are facilitated through the Community Tool Shed program. Each fire station “tool shed” is stocked with various cleaning and gardening tools including push brooms, shovels, push mowers, electrical extension cords, and leaf blowers. All tools are available to the public at no charge.
The Keep El Paso Beautiful program received the Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality’s Award of Excellence in 2007. Most recently, KEPB was recognized with the Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCA Award), which granted the organization $265,000 towards a beautification project along a Texas state highway. KEPB has won the GCA Award three times in the last nine years, and has used grant money to complete other beautification projects, including improvements to medians along Mesa, McRae, an exit near Joe Battle, and a stretch of I-10 East near the North-South freeway overpass.
